It’s hard to handle two or move activities at once, but I am now used to doing more than one out-of –school activity. I do gymnastics eighteen hours a week, and am in school five days a week. I also try to manage having a social life. It’s not easy but somehow I manage to make it work!

In gymnastics I am doing very well. I have been to two competitions, Red Deer Trials for Winter Games and a St. Albert practice competition. At trials it was my first meet and I didn’t make it to Winter Games, but I’m still proud of myself because I did everything I was supposed to do. At St. Albert I did really well: I got second all around; first on vault; third on bars; second on beam; second on floor. I’ve learned not only gymnastics skills but that I can handle competitions.

School has gone well too. I really like grade nine, and since we are constantly doing new things, I’ve learned a lot! Life may not be easy but somehow I’ve managed to make it work while continually learning.

Shayla, a grade nine student at High Park School, makes the best of all situations. She can usually be found hard at work or enjoying the company of friends and family.

I love the way your positive attitude shines through. I wish I was going to Montreal with you. What a fabulous opportunity to explore so many things related to your passion. Think of me a Cirque du Soleil.
