Today Grade 4 had a video conference with Marty Chan.  Do you know who Marty Chan is? Well, I can tell you!  Marty Chan is a book writer.  He wrote The Mystery of the Frozen BrainsThe Mystery of the Graffiti GhoulThe Mystery of the Mad Science TeacherThe Mystery of the Cyber Bully, and Barnabas BigfootA Hairy Mess is coming out in the summer time.  Marty Chan told us that he takes real life things and he puts them into his stories.  The Mystery of the Mad Science Teacher  was actually about his Gym teacher and he changed it to be about the Science teacher. His Gym teacher was scary because he made them do laps and always called them by their last name.  Marty Chan was really descriptive, so I could really visualize what he was talking about in my head.  His books are very vivid and have a lot of action. I learned that it is important to describe events in your writing so readers can visualize it in their head. He is very funny and told us stories that inspired his writing.  Now I want to write about my life stories. We saw a video at the end about a Sasquatch because he is starting a new series about them, but we don’t know if it is real or not.  I am not at all sure!

Emma is a Grade 4 student at Millgrove School who likes reading and learning.  She enjoys spending time with animals, especially her guinea pig, Sophie.

Great job, Emma! You are right, Marty Chan is a very talented writer and story teller. His talent for description is probably why you and your classmates were laughing so hard as you visualized him hitting his Gym teacher in the head with the dodgeball! I look forward to more reading about your life stories soon.
