Day 171: Steven S. Teacher (Keephills School)

June 11th, 2012 · 1 Comment · Early Years, Parkland Staff

Over the course of this school year the teachers at Keephills School have been using technology to support student learning and assist with best assessment practices. We have found there are many exciting ways to have students share their learning experiences with the use of an ipad. Recently we held a Science Fair in our gym to allow all of our students an opportunity to display their knowledge about the world around them. This science fair was a take-home critical thinking activity that students worked on. Using a template, students planned a science fair experiment following the scientific method which included, a problem/question, a list of materials, procedure and a conclusion. There was criteria that pertained to the science fair itself, which referred to the oral presentation and the visual presentation. The K-2 teacher Mr. Schumacher decided to record two of the student demonstrations on his ipad and rolled it over into a youtube video for sharing.

Here is what Michael (gr.1) and Logan (gr.2) have to say about what they learned.

It is so exciting to see students get enthusiastic about their learning. One of the best ways to learn something is to “prepare” to teach others. Well done Michael, Logan and Mr. Schumacher!
