Spruce Grove Composite High School is pretty amazing this year for three reasons:
1- We have a student run cafe. This means that it’s us who work shifts and us who decide on what to stock up on. In fact, student union went on a Costco field trip this one time to buy the things we were going to sell. Best field trip ever.
2- Personal Learning Time and Teacher Collaborative Time. Because we have a life, homework in every subject can get a little overwhelming at times. Lucky for us, we have one day every week designed to help us catch up with our school work, study with friends, and get one-on-one help from teachers. .
3- Seminar. Before this year, seminar was being rotated throughout the four blocks of the day. Teachers thought that this meant “Goody, I can trap my students in here for another forty minutes!” But then, some genius realised that students did not like this because their brain died every day. So seminar got moved to the last forty minutes of the day, everyday. This allowed us to have time to work on the subjects we needed to work on as opposed to whichever subject seminar followed. Plus, we are able to get one-on-one help from our teachers.
All in all, SGCHS is really great this year, and should continue using the flexibility plan and student driven projects in order to remain great for the upcoming years.
