A strong vision and mission are foundationally essential for growth and progress for any school division. Our vision is that Parkland School Division is a place where exploration, creativity and imagination make learning exciting and where all learners aspire to reach their dreams. Our mission is to prepare, engage and inspire our students to be their best in a quickly changing global community. Each year, in keeping with its vision and mission, school divisions in Alberta provide three-year plans that encourage growth and excellence, in coordination with Alberta Education. In its March, 2015 Business Plan, Alberta Education identified four priority outcomes, and noted that “a greater emphasis on communication, critical thinking and innovation is foundational to supporting the system’s flexibility and students’ success in developing as engaged thinkers and ethical citizens with an entrepreneurial spirit:”
- Every student is successful; this goal aligns with Parkland School Division’s Ultimate Goal of Success and Well-Being for all students.
- Alberta has quality teaching and school leadership
- Alberta’s education system is governed effectively
- First Nations, Métis and Inuit students are successful
The Business Plan for Education informs strategic planning for school divisions across the province. Parkland School Division appreciates, and demonstrates that stakeholder engagement is a critical aspect of the planning process. Engaging our stakeholders ensures that Parkland School Division is developing a strong educational system that puts student learning at the core of its work while being accountable for the quality of the work it is doing. We operate with an assurance model – a measure of confidence – to determine our stakeholders’ confidence in our progress. To this end, we gather data from across the system and from a variety of sources, including: Tell Them From Me surveys, Accountability Surveys and the extensive Thought Exchange stakeholder feedback process.
On Wednesday, April 15th, stakeholders (including principals, teachers, school council parents, support staff and community members) will meet to define and refine Parkland School Division’s 2015-2018 Education Plan.
