Popcorn… ice cream sundaes… hamburgers… sno-cones – is this a school, or a food court? On April 14-16 École Broxton Park School was buzzing with excitement as students enjoyed the fares of Marketplace 2015. Working in groups of three, the Grade Nine students choose a food product to sell at lunchtime to all the students . Delicious smells and sounds of many treats filled the air, like popcorn, corndogs, tacos, chicken nuggets, sno-cones and much more. This project provides Grade Nine students with an authentic learning experience as they explore the ins and outs of an economy, consumerism, functional writing, advertising, budgeting and so much more – all linked to Social Studies 9. All of the students were also able to have some valuable learning experiences throughout Marketplace as they considered their budgets and carefully purchased their favourite products.
Marketplace also supports our Grade Nine farewell celebration. The proceeds raised send our grade nine students on an all-expense paid day trip to Camp Nakamun with their classmates, as well as decorations, photo booths, photography and/or other things for their farewell ceremony. We have also purchased some special items for the school .
