In the past couple weeks, the 3/4’s have been busy becoming mathematicians! We began our new unit collaborating in groups to create strategies that help them with their multiplication facts. Once we had our strategies created it was time to practice.
The students worked together to come up with games and centres that help their friends become fluent in their math facts. After our centres were created, it was time for the fun playing our games. Student games included everything from multiplication memory, bingo, and the class favourite…Kaboom!
Once the mathematicians were comfortable with their new skills, they had a new project at hand. Students were asked to use their math skills, along with their knowledge of communities, to create a blueprint for a new city. Their blueprints included the services every community needs and students had to use their knowledge of multiplication and ‘area’ to bring their plans to life. It was a busy few weeks here. Students were quite excited about their new city and all the knowledge they have learned!
