We learned a lot about how our blue bags get sorted. The Materials Recovery Facility has many workers that sort all of the recyclables. We learned that it is important to separate all the materials and that all the containers are clean before we put them into blue bags.
Our next stop was to the E-Waste Recycling facility. We were able to see how workers carefully take apart electronics. Did you know that many parts from old electronic devices can be made into new ones?
Our last stop was the Process and Transfer facility. This is where the remainder of the garbage goes. We were so excited to see how non-recyclable and non-compostable materials can be turned into a “fluff” like material, which is converted into biofuels.
After the tour, we stopped at Rundle park for a picnic and some fun time in the park! Check out some photos below!
