Invisible Hand

Invisible Hand

The invisible hand is a way of describing the cause and effect of businesses, and the way consumers decide how the prices and cost will be of a product. The invisible hand is when a business is selling something and the competition has the same idea and lowers the prices for more customers. Resulting in the first business to lowers their prices even more than the second one.  The competition battles for more consumers and better prices, but if a business is making less than they are spending they will go bankrupt and won’t be able to continue selling in their business. So the invisible hand is the way consumer’s control how a business does and how they do it.

New Land (Cole)

New Land

It’s been 5 years and we’re doing very well considering when we got there it consisted of a giant rock and dirt. *There are many luxuries we would like but we have not acquired yet because of all the attention we have focused on the necessities. I brought many useful things with me in my bag on my way to this new land. The things I brought were things we would need to survive and make things easier for the first few weeks or months. I brought turnip seeds from the farm I owned before getting driven out of my country because of being in the mafia. I also brought a shovel for any sort of digging or landscaping, a pickaxe for any rock that’s in our way good thing I brought it too for the huge rock in the middle of our land, also in my bag was a straw basket for whatever it is needed for in this case for carrying fish and bait. Another thing in my pack was an iron cup and some flint for fires and the cup for boiling impurities out of water and cooking stews over a fire, a knife to cut hide and anything else. A string was included in my bag just because it could be useful in some time, like now when we built a fishing rod out of it and a branch from one of the small pines we brought in our bags. IN the future plans I would like to build a blacksmith forge for making tools and to have a supply of them. I would also like to have people working in my mine. It has been two years today, and the queen has come back to collect the gifts from the residence of ticumsa. Approaching the queen is a delicate operation; you may not speak directly to the queen until given permission from her helper. Once you are allowed to talk you must bow and may not be standing taller than the queen. After 2 offerings before us we offered Daniel as a recruit for the army and turnips we have been growing. We offered turnips because they are a long lasting vegetable that’s has lots of nutrients. We offered weapons for the army, we get our weapons from the mine from rock and metal we can make. After Nash and Ethan made a second offering, they offered their land for troops to stay and, consequently they became governors of the entire land when the queen is not there and are now the official owners of 2 different lands. Daniel was M.I.A and was not there when we gave him away to the queen. So until she sees Daniel we will not be able to hear what we get in return.  After trying to start a mutiny against Nash an Ethan it was resolved by joining there army and in return they gave me a bear and tiger as cubs so I can domesticate them. resulting in an unstoppable force of animal warrior.

Kony 2012 Cole

Kony 2012

The kony 2012 video was made by a man who traveled to a village just outside of Sri Lanka called Uganda where warlord named Joseph Kony resides. Joseph Kony maintains his power through fear and an army of children that were kidnapped from their parents and forced to kill and steal villages. Lots of the kids he kidnaps are forced to kill their own parents. If a child tries to escape or defies a demand they are killed. What Kony is doing is awful and needs to come to a stop. The maker of the video also feels the same way, after meeting a young boy in a small village that was attacked by Kony he interviewed the boy and he told the story of how and when Kony attacked their village and his brother was killed. He then decided that it’s a bigger deal than most people think it is and needs to be brought to the attention of everyone. He sells boxes containing posters wristbands and stickers that people can buy, the money goes into the project to make kony noticed. He talked to government officials and even Obama to try to do something to stop kony. After showing Obama how many people care about stopping Kony he sent out troops to locate and stop Joseph Kony as soon as possible. But if he is not stopped by the end of 2012 the troops and officials may be called off and lose interest in helping. So that’s why he is trying so hard to raise money and keeps them interested. I think that its important to bring the situation to the attention to as many people as I can and hope that they find Joseph Kony by the end of 2012.

Immigration Report card (unfinished)

Canada’s Report Card

Pursue social, cultural and economic benefits for all Canadians. (Immigration and refugee protection act)

Mark: A. Because they let immigrants of all races into the county and make sure they get a job, and they help them integrate into Canadian society.  From the immigration act they lowered the amount of landing money new immigrants need to get into Canada. Because of the charter of the United Nations, the Chinese immigration act of 1923 was repealed and Chinese residents of Canada who were not already Canadian citizens could apply for naturalization.

Respect the bilingual and multicultural character of Canada. (Immigration and refugee protection act)

Mark: B. Because in the case of the boat people they did not let them in directly into the country because of their culture. But in most cases they do respect language and culture. In the case of the Great Britain immigrating is always easier for them because Canada’s government wants them. They want them for there similarity in culture and language.

Save lives and offer protection to people who are displaced and persecuted. (Immigration and refugee protection act)

Mark: C.  The Canadian government would have earned a C because of the limited people allowed in to the country when World war two started and the Jewish people were forced to abandon their homes because of the threat of the Nazi parties. The people of Sri Lanka peoples came to Canada for protection from the war, with no relations to Canada, Canada still took in the refugees but put them into isolation until they found their identity. In ww2 when the Japanese bombed pearl harbor the Japanese were taken and put into a special camp because they thought all Japanese were planning to bomb and they were discriminated against, that shows that Canada has failed in the past to protect and save the lives of immigrants.

Cole Visual Verbal Essay

I drew this picture to represent the book i was reading and the theme fo the book which is, “A safe haven for kids”, In this picture i drew Lodz. Lodz was one of the camos Daniel was sent to with his family and they were forced to slave labor. In my picture i included torn banners and broken plywood, and other kinds of scrap material to write the quotes i’ve chosen from the book that best represent it. Across the two condos, where Daniel and his family were staying, i drew a shredded makeshift banner strung across with messy writing, “WELCOME TO LODZ’. i drew the banner the way it is because it shows that it’s not a happy welcome. The two condos that the banner is strung between are broken and in bad shape. The condos are drawn this way because Lodz is a “Ghetto’. The ways the condos are drawn to look like a ghetto are cracks in the walls broken windows and some holes in the walls. The condos were un-heated and in poor living conditions so i drew them like that so represent the poor living conditions. The chainlink fence with the barbed wire on it is how they kept the jews in the compound. Lodz is were they kept the jews for slave labor, the types of slave labor in the compound were making shoes for the german soldiers, making cutlery etc… The picture was left in black and white to create a more negative mood because that is the mood i got from reading the book. The quotes i included in my picture are “Oh god, help us…”. This was scratched into the plywood. i worte this on my picture because the germans are doing all of this because of their religon. i aslo wrote the quote “People think it will make germany strong again..”. This quote was included because the germans took away freedom and rights from the kids just so they could fix bad economy. I drew The Picture in black and white to portray an old fashioned photo. One of the best quotes that fits with the theme is the one i put on the rag stuck on the fence, it says “Then the worst… The german soldiers threw babies!” This ties in with the theme well because the safe haven of the hospital was taken away from the babies. All of the books in the project relate because they all involve kids running away from someone or somthing, to look for a safe haven. A quote i chose from Daniels story that described the theme and the book is “Could it get worse?” “I didn’t think so.” The last quote i wrote on my picture is “They will kil you here for less than that…” In all i think the book was interesting and easy to read. It fit well with the theme.

Blast Response

Blast Response

The blast program came to our school to talk to the junior high students about smoking and the effects it has on youth and health. I think the blast program was very helpful in teaching how to say no and how it can affect your health and those around you. My favorite speaker was Jack. He was funny and had a lot of knowledge on this topic because he used to smoke when he was a teenager and he described how he quit and why he quit. Another interesting thing in the presentation was when they pulled out a pigs lung that looked exactly like a smokers lung and she inflated it and it barley inflated and she said that was what happens to your lungs if your smoke. They handed out different things in the presentation each one was something in a cigarette. There are so many different chemicals and poisons in a cigarette I don’t know why anyone would want to start. Overall I think the blast program was fun and filled with a lot of information that can help everyone.

Inference Blog: “Daniels Story”

These two characters, Daniel and Rosa, became friends because they were in a secret youth group in the ghetto. In the book it doesn’t tell me why radios are banned for Jews but I think it is because the Germans don’t want them to know what is going on outside of the camps, or what’s going on with the war and who is winning. What is happening when they are being selected, where is the train going to take them? And why do they want to go?

Cole Summarizing Blog: “Daniels Story”

Summarizing Blog: “Daniels Story”

Briefly Daniels problems in this story are, he and his family are Jews and are being sent to a concentration camp. The Jews are sent to different camps for slave labor and if they are not healthy or can’t work they are put on a train to go get killed. The worst thing about this book is when people that Daniel is very close to get killed or die from hunger. This book has this title because the main character is Daniel and it is a book on how his life is when he is in a concentration camp, so it is called Daniels story.
