Blueberry School has been offering a small group gathering for select girls in grade 8 and 9. Once in each four day rotation two different groups girls gather to learn and discuss pertinent relational issues around life as a female. Through these gatherings, they raise awareness about relational aggression, help the girls develop empathy, and effectively address conflict. In addition, the group determines different strategies on how to diffuse anger without disrespecting one another. Through these sharing circles, girls develop a strong sense of self.
As part of step six of the comprehensive school health cycle, the program celebrates the students’ commitment to the group and to the investment that each girl has made in herself. The celebration is a field trip to Memorial Composite High School’s Cosmetology Dept under the fine leadership of Jessica Gardner. Seventeen of Blueberry’s Middle School Students were warmly welcomed by the high school beauticians for a makeover! The high school students did a fabulous job…as you can see!
