Tie Dye T-Shirts

Posted by cbursey | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on February 26, 2017

This year, our Leadership Option is organizing a Tie Dye t-shirts fundraiser. We will be selling t-shirts from February 22 to March 2. We will be dying the t-shirts from March 6-10.

March 6: Monday-Wednesday Kindergarten class

March 7: Tuesday-Thursday Kindergarten class

March 9: Grades 1, 3, 5, 7, 9

March 10: Grades 2, 4, 6, 8

We will be dying the t-shirts in Mrs. Arnold’s room. Each white cotton t-shirt costs $10 and all money raised will go to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation. Last year we raised about $1000, so this year we aim to exceed that amount.  Don’t forget to bring in your money by March 2!

Posted by cbursey | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on January 31, 2017

Dear Parents

Our Kindergarten classes will not be having Parent Teacher interviews at this time as we just had them in late November.

Next round of interviews will be mid March. When times and dates are available I will let you know. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at that time.

Parents are welcome to stop by anytime during regular school hours 8:00 am until 2:24 pm. The Tue-Thurs Class is scheduled to attend the book fair on Tuesday Feb. 7rd, 2017 from 8:01 am until 8:30 am. There will be no regular library that week. If you are able please feel free to come to the classroom and meet your child. Then you as a family can go to the Book Fair to browse and shop as you like. For those parents who cannot come at our assigned time either you can attend at a different time or send money for the Book Fair and I will help your child to find an appropriate book. Lastly be aware that this event is optional and you are under no obligation to participate. For those children who are not participating I will have a Free Choice Activity planned in the classroom.

Thank you for your support and understanding.

Tobogganing at MLS for Grades 3 to 5

Posted by cbursey | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on January 22, 2017

Great News!
One of our parents has generously offered to organize sledding for our grade 3-5 students Jan 25 & 26, 2017. We will put out notes on the Friday for the following week. However, in order to make sledding available for our students, we will need your help as a parent to help supervise the hill during the lunch break from 11:25-11:55 a.m. If you are able to help with this please contact Deidre (Didi) Beaudoin at  (780) 968-7678.

The expectations for the students who will participate in tobogganing are as follows:
Following the Alberta Safety Guidelines as well as the Alberta Health Services’ Provincial Injury Prevention Team (2010), your son/daughter will be expected to understand and adhere to the following considerations:

  • All students on toboggans must wear an approved outdoor activity helmet
  • Suitable clothing and footwear must be worn for outdoor activities
  • Toboggans must be in good repair with no jagged edges
  • Snow saucers, tubes, crazy carpets, and GT racers are not be used at any time
  • Students are only permitted to kneel or sit on the toboggan
  • Students must not proceed until the run-out area is clear providing for a safe distance between toboggans
  • The supervisor will ensure that an appropriate number of children are on each toboggan
Students may be removed from participating in this activity if the supervisor identifies inappropriate behaviour. Note:Toboggans are NOT allowed on the buses.

Kindergarten Week (Jan. 16 to 20) Reminder

Posted by cbursey | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on January 15, 2017

Dear Parents.

This week we will be having our Musical Guest Paul Bromley back again to visit.

It will be on Wednesday Jan. 18, 2017 for the Mon/Wen. Class.

And Thursday Jan. 19, 2017 for the Tue/Thur Class.

The visits will begin at 9:30am and go until 10:30 each day. So if you as a parent would like to volunteer to join us that would be great. Just send an e-mail or message that you will be there.

Please remember to send a Cardboard tube with your child for that day. The tube can be from paper towel roll or longer. (Just not from toilet rolls which are too short to make a wind instrument)

Thank You to all of those who have already sent cardboard rolls into the class.

We as a class are still looking for Parent Volunteers to help run our home reading program. It requires a commitment of coming to the class once a week to help the children exchange their books and reading with them. If you have any questions or concerns with this program please let me know.

Kinsmen Christmas Hampers

Posted by cbursey | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on November 20, 2016

Again this year, our school is sponsoring families through the Kinsmen Club of Stony Plain Christmas Hamper program.  This is the 38th year that the Hamper Program has helped those that are less fortunate in Stony Plain and Parkland County. Last year close to 450 families (over 1500 people) were supplied with food, toys and gift cards for much needed necessities. Each grade level in the school has been assigned a family. It is our hope that we will be able to make Christmas a happier time for these families through our community’s generosity. Suggested items to donate are non-perishable food items, such as canned goods, pasta, hot chocolate or hot cider mix, etc. or small gift items like children’s books or stuffed animals. Items donated should not be wrapped and should be in to the school before Friday, December 9

Thank you for your part in making Christmas brighter for these families!
