Blast Response

Morgan Campbell

During the Blast presentation that was put on at our school I learned a lot about the tobacco industry that I hadn’t before. One thing that I learned is how easily people can be persuaded into trying tobacco. To youth, the industry makes tobacco look like a positive thing when in reality it isn’t at all. I learned how advertising can make a big impact on youth by putting they’re ads in places that youth pay attention to, like TV channels and magazines. Another thing I learned was how chew tobacco tins have sneaky ways to make their products seem less harmful. I also learned how younger generations get influenced by older kids and sometimes their parents. Overall it made me more aware of the lengths that the tobacco industry will go to in order to have success. The thing I enjoyed most about the presentation is the tobacco-free candies that are used to influence kids to finally try real tobacco products.

Great response! I love that you are thinking about propaganda and how we are influenced by what we are viewing. It is an important skill in our society to critically assess what we view and what messages we are receiving.
