Identity Fair- June 23rd

Here follows a copy of the parent letter that was sent home last week. The letter gives extra information regarding the upcoming Identity Fair.

How could you effectively share a part of your identity with your friends at Muir Lake School?

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We would like you and your child  to prepare a display that demonstrates one of their interests, pastimes, hobbies, or family history.  Everyone, staff and students, will share a display on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2015. You will complete one sentence (I chose to share ________________________________ because_____________________ ) to be displayed on your desk  with your objects.  Then we will have a chance to tour through the school to see everyone else’s.  Your display can be nice and simple, or as complicated as you would like to make it.

Example of simpler display:

I chose to share my love of baseball because I am a player and I’m also a huge fan of the Toronto Blue Jays.   I will bring in my baseball glove, photos of me playing, a poster of the Blue Jays, and my baseball cap.

Example of a more complex display:

I chose to share my family’s Ukrainian heritage because I love my Bab and all the cultural things she does with me.  We make perogies, we do needlework, we paint eggs, and I am now taking Ukrainian dancing lessons.    I will bring some Ukrainian Easter eggs, family photos, map of the Ukraine, a display board with interesting facts about the Ukraine, some pioneer photos of Ukrainian immigrants to Alberta, the history of my family name, and my dancing clothes.

So get planning!!!! This is a chance to share a little something about yourself.  Check the Muir Lake School blog.

Picture Grades 1 to 5  setting up their displays on their desks, and then taking turns “hosting” everyone else, as we snake our way through the classrooms.  What a great way to get to know each other better!! So, parents, we ask that you help your child think about what identity project they’d like to consider.  Parents please help your child gather their information and materials and remember the area of display is the size of their desk.   This is meant to be a school-home project.  We invite you to come in and enjoy the Fair, too.

We’re looking forward to Tuesday when we can learn more about each other!
