Take Our Kids To Work on November 4th

What is the Take Our Kids to WorkTM program?
Take Our Kids to WorkTM is an annual program in which Grade 9 (or equivalent) students are hosted by parents, friends, relatives and volunteers at workplaces across the country every November (November 4, 2015). The program supports career development by helping students connect school, the world of work, and their own futures. The “Take Our Kids to Work™” is a program which began in 1994 in the Greater Toronto area. Today, students across Canada, from Nunavut to Newfoundland participate in the program.

All grade 9 parents are asked to please fill out this Consent Form and return it to your child’s homeroom teacher by Tuesday November 3rd.

We are completely out of shoe boxes. Please fill a regular shoe box from home.  If  you have any spare shoe boxes at home, please consider bringing them into the office as we have many students who would like to fill one.

Collection week is November 2-6th.

Thank you for supporting our Muir Lake traditional shoe box drive to bring joy to hurting children this Christmas.

If you haven’t picked up a shoe box yet, hurry to the office. Shoe boxes always run out before collection week. If you don’t manage to get one, just fill a shoe box from home. With the situation in Syria becoming such a problem, more hurting children than ever need us to share some love.

Mrs. Montgomery’s class filled an amazing amount of boxes last year, closely followed by Mrs. Gadoury. Please consider filling a box if you haven’t done one before and play an active role in bringing huge smiles to desperate children across the world. You can always help your child write a letter to enclose in the box; it will be translated when it arrives and is apparently one of the most exciting things for the children to receive.

COLLECTION WEEK: NOVEMBER 2nd-NOVEMBER 6th

Thank you!

We Scare Hunger

imageWe are all called to step up and make a change in the world. Whether it’s big or small everything makes a difference and the We Care team at Muir Lake School is making their difference. We have begun the We Scare Hunger Food Bank Drive. This week let’s work together to scare away hunger and collect food for the Parkland Food Bank . Let’s scare away hunger one can of food at a time. The Parkland Food Bank helps over 900 local families each year. The We Care Team has put decorated boxes all around the school and in classrooms. We ask students to bring in non perishable food to donate to our cause. We hope to collect 433 pounds of food, one pound for every student at Muir a Lake School. Together We Scare Hunger!

Simply have your child pick up a shoebox and a leaflet and follow the instructions on how to help make children smile in spite of their circumstances this Christmas.

Shoe boxes will be available for you in the school office Tuesday 13th October. Our collection week will begin 2nd November. The last collection day will be 6th November.

Lunch Programs

schoollunchThe fundraising lunch program is underway (which consists of orders from DQ, BP, Subway, Taco Time, & Edo) – if you have placed an order, you should be receiving an email at the beginning of each week outlining the details (unless you have opted out of receiving an email).

For the month of October fundraising lunches are being served on Monday and Thursday – please be sure to send lunches for your children on the other days.

The Hot Lunch Program will begin in November and depending on which class your child(ren) is/are in, hot lunches are prepared by volunteers in the school and served to students on either Tuesday & Thursday or Wednesday & Friday.  From November to April while the Hot Lunch program is operating the fundraising lunch program will revert back to just being offered on Monday.

If you have any questions please refer to the “Lunch Programs” tab on the blog menu bar or contact either Jennifer at 780-9663-1316 or Gerri-lou at 780-266-0899. Thank you.
