Christmas Concerts

ReindeerChristmas is coming quickly and we are excited to announce that we will once again be able to showcase the musical skill and talent of Muir Lake students through a grade 1-3 concert and a grade 4-6 concert. This is a great opportunity for students to refine and build their skills to a heightened level. There is a sense of pride and accomplishment that accompanies participation in a performance such as this. As a school, we join the parents and community in celebrating this time of year through music. We look forward to every child participating in their respective performances. The evening performances begin at 7:00 pm, but we ask that the children be in their classrooms by 6:30 pm.

Please mark the following dates on your calendars and plan to attend along with your child(ren).

Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1:00 pm             Dress Rehearsal, Grade 1-3
Tuesday, Dec. 1, 7:00 pm             Grade 1-3 Concert (ticket required)
Thursday, Dec. 3, 1:00 pm            Dress Rehearsal, Grade 4-6
Thursday, Dec. 3, 7:00 pm            Grade 4-6 Concert (ticket required)

To accommodate the large number of vehicles and attendees, we will continue to offer dress rehearsals at 1:00 pm on the day of the evening concert. Dress Rehearsals are a full run through of the program and do not require a ticket. Please remember however, that your child will still need to attend the evening performance. Those attending the evening performance will need to have a ticket. Four tickets for each family for each performance that their children are to attend were sent home last week, if families do not need all four tickets, we ask that you return the extras to the office. These will then be available to others upon request.

Thank you for your support and planning to accommodate these performances.

What’s Happening at MLS?

Whats Happening

Photo Retakes
The Lifetouch photographer will be here on Thursday November 19th to take Photo Retakes. Unlike past years, the photographer will ONLY be here on the one day to do retakes, not two days. The Monday/Wednesday kindergarten students are welcome to drop in to the Muir Lake Hall anytime from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. to have their photo re-done. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your co-operation.

Ward Restructure
In 2013, Parkland School Division’s Trustees identified concerns with the current electoral wards. Specifically, it was felt that they no longer reflected the democratic principle of representation by population. Click HERE to read more from our PSD70 Office and to view the proposed ward changes on a map.

CAT4 Assessments
During the next two weeks, our grades 2 and 4 to 9 students will be participating in the Canadian Achievement Tests (CAT-4). These assessments, based on Canadian curriculum, will assess each student’s basic skill level in reading, language, spelling and mathematics. Parents and teachers will receive a printed report. It is anticipated that the results will give our school information on achievement levels and will help to set direction for future learning needs. Please contact your child’s teacher or Mrs. Ferguson if you have any questions or concerns. For more information on these assessments you can visit their website at http://www.canadiantestcentre.com/CAT4/CAT4-Home.php

Kinsmen Christmas Hampers

Again this year, our school is sponsoring families through the Kinsmen Club of Stony Plain Christmas Hamper program.  This is the 37th year that the Hamper Program has helped those that are less fortunate in Stony Plain and Parkland County.  Last year close to 400 families (over 1400 people) were supplied with food, toys and gift cards for much needed necessities.

Each grade level in the school has been assigned a family.  It is our hope that we will be able to make Christmas a happier time for these families through our community’s generosity. Click HERE to see the list of families that each grade has been assigned to help this year.

Suggested items to donate are non-perishable food items, such as canned goods, pasta, hot chocolate or hot cider mix, etc. or small gift items like children’s books or stuffed animals.

Items donated should not be wrapped and should be in to the school before Thursday, December 10th.

Thank you for your part in making Christmas brighter for these families!photo4

Demographic Information Updates Required

online-computer-information-systems-degreePlease watch for a double sided pink form coming home for you to update all student information on.   We have a new student information system this year and have noticed missing and incorrect contact information that occurred with the sync between our old system and our new system. Please carefully go over the information and make necessary corrections, sign when completed and return to your homeroom teacher as soon as possible. Thank you for your assistance.
