Check Out Your New School Council!

schoolcouncil

Check it out!  You have a new school council for this school year and we are excited to introduce them to you! Click on the Muir Lake School Council tab at the top of the blog page – this is where you will find all you need to know about our school council and what they can do for you. With that being said, we are still looking for a grade 4 representative. If you are able to help fill this position please contact Christy Sherwood via email at muirlakescchair@psd70.ab.ca

Remember; council meets the second teaching Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the school library learning commons and all parents are encouraged to attend. Minutes and agendas will be posted on the council blog page in advance of each meeting.

Thank you for your continued support of our school council.

Remembrance Day @ MLS

remembrance-dayOur Remembrance Day Service will be held on Thursday November 10th at 10:30 a.m. Poppies will be distributed to all students on the above date and donations will be accepted at this time.

Every year, we have an assembly with all the students and try to explain to them the meaning of Remembrance Day through poems, filmstrips, readings, music, and song. Also we try to remind them that war takes its toll on both sides and that one side’s sense of pain and loss is no less than another’s.

Many of you have had friends or relatives who served their country in wartime. We would like to remember these people by having your child pin a poppy on our cross.  At the time that your child is doing this, we would like to mention the name of the person being remembered along with a little background information. For your convenience you may go online to fill in this Tribute Form or go to http://bit.ly/PoppyTribute with the necessary information OR print this FORM and have your child return it to the school office by Tuesday, November 8, 2016.

And of course, as always, parents & family are more than welcome to attend our Remembrance Day Service.

Leadership students will also be going to classes in grades 5 and 6 to lead Halloween related games.

In the afternoon (12:20-2:35), students in grades 7-9 will take part in their Halloween dance. Our dance DJ is one of our own grade nine students, and we are very excited to get dancing!

WE Scare Hunger!

Last year the MLS We Care Team very proudly loaded 440 pounds of donated food which was then delivered to the Parkland Food Bank.

The School’s We Care Team has launched their We Scare Hunger Campaign to collect food and personal items for the Parkland Food Bank. Please, if you can, send some non-perishable food items in to your child’s class, the food drive will continue through the month of October.

Thank you for your contribution!
