Social Media Awareness and Mental Health Parent Information Night

Social Media Awareness and Mental Health Parent Information Night – September 28th

On September 26th we will be welcoming Wade Sorochan to Muir Lake School where he will be presenting to our grade 6-9 students about the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between the real and digital worlds. Wade will share his story with students and will discuss some strategies that can be used to help address some of the negative feeling that people sometimes experience as a result of their time online. We have partnered with High Park School, Greystone Centennial Middle School, Woodhaven and Stony Plain Central to make these sessions available to our students and are hopeful that they have a positive impact on them. One of the things that is also clear in looking at research around resiliency and supporting students is the importance of having a strong connection with the adults in their lives. As a result, in addition to the student session that will be delivered on the 26th at Muir Lake, High Park School will also be hosting a parent information session on the evening of September 28th from 6:30-8:00 at Stony Plain Central School. To get an idea of numbers we are asking that parents register in order to confirm attendance and ensure that we have enough space. There will be no charge for this event. To learn more about Wade and the message he shares with students please visit his website at http://www.wadesorochan.com/.

Lunch Programs for 2017 2018

We are very fortunate to have two wonderful lunch programs in our school.

Fundraising Lunches are things like Boston Pizza, Subway, Dairy Queen & Edo Japan.

Our Hot Lunch program is run out of the school whereby volunteers come in and make our children nutritious lunches right here in our school kitchen – this is a tradition that has been going on for over 15 years.

Lunches are ordered ONLINE through www.MuirLakeSchool.HotLunches.Net for a month at a time — and with that being said the due date for September ordering is this Thursday September 14th — so please get your orders in ASAP! No late orders will be accepted.

Please click on the Lunch Programs tab at the top of this Blog page to find more information about the programs.

As mentioned earlier, our lunch programs are run with volunteers, and MANY more volunteers are needed – even if you can only spare a couple of hours a week, it would be appreciated — and greatly needed in order to keep the program running. Please contact Dawn at at 780-910-4765 or dawnwilloughby123@gmail.com if you are able to help in any way.

Thank you!

Rural Bus Passes

Please read the communication that you should have received from Parkland School Division Transportation department . . . .

Dear Parents or Guardians of Muir Lake School students,
We’d like to provide the following update when it comes to bus pass pick up for those families who registered online for busing prior to the July 15th deadline.
It was previously communicated that your passes would be processed at the same time as the rest of the Urban Bus Passes for the Town of Stony Plain and the City of Spruce Grove and available to pick up at the Centre for Education in Stony Plain.  In actuality, our Transportation Services staff are diligently processing those right now in time for the Rural Bus Pass Pick Up.
Please accept our apologies for the confusion. Your passes will be available to pick up at Muir Lake School starting Monday, August 28th

Report cards will be available online via our PowerSchool Parent Portal at the end of today, Thursday June 29th. Copies of the report cards will be going home with students today. Any paper copies not picked up will be available for pickup in the office after August 24th.

Have a great summer everyone and we will see you back on the first day of school, Tuesday September 5th.

Goodwill Donation Drive

Goodwill Industries of Alberta has teamed up with us to do a Goodwill Donation Drive.

On Monday June 26th and Tuesday June 27th there will be a Goodwill truck/trailer here at school. Please drop off your gently used items that you have collected while doing your spring cleaning. This can be done during regular school hours from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Donation bags are available in the school office or simply use a plastic bag from home.

Thank you for your support of Muir Lake School and Goodwill Alberta!

Required Online Bus Registration Open Now

Parkland School Division is changing the way families sign up for Transportation Services. For the 2017 – 2018 school year, we require ALL families to register in advance online starting Monday, June 5th. This includes riders whose Transportation Fees will be $0. Details and links will be shared with parents via email. The good news is, once parents/guardians register online in advance, long line-ups for bus pass sales at the Centre for Education in the fall can be completely avoided.

For the 2017-2018 school year, in order to ensure transportation on the first day of school, applications must be submitted before July 15th, 2017.

Routes and stop locations will be created from application forms received before the July 15th deadline. Applications will continue to be processed throughout the summer; however families are encouraged to guarantee their spots as some routes are currently at or near capacity.

For detailed instructions on how to register for busing online, visit Online Bus Registration Instructions page of the PSD70 Website.
