Wednesday, June 26th will be Muir Lake’s 2019 Fun Day! Fun Day celebrations will be from 11:55 am – 2:15 pm. The school will be providing a hotdog lunch. Please still pack your child a snack for the morning.
Students in kindergarten through grade 5 will move independently from station to station. Students in kindergarten through grade 2 will be encouraged to buddy up with a friend to go to stations. All stations will be outside, please come dressed and ready for any weather! Please send hats if it is sunny. We recommend applying sunscreen and bug spray before coming to school. If you send any, it must be lotion and not aerosol.
Students will be rotating around stations that teachers and parents have prepared. Students will have punch cards to show they have gone to stations. When their cards are full, they can turn them in to get a prize. Prize options are a freezie, bag of popcorn or a temporary glitter tattoo, based on how many stations they get to in the afternoon they may get some or all of these prizes.
To make this event a success and fun for all, we need your expertise! If you can volunteer, please complete our Google form (scan QR code or go to https://bit.ly/2HNJv5X) by Friday, June 14th.

Write-On Stationery is offering the parents of Muir Lake School the opportunity to pre-purchase their school supplies for the 2019-2020 school year. Write-On will purchase, package and deliver all of your children’s school supplies for next year. Forms are going home this week, just fill them out, return it to the school with payment and then pick up your supplies from the school in the last week of August. It is REALLY that easy! OR you can order and pay for your supplies online at www.write-on.ca.
As a fundraiser, Muir Lake School will receive a percentage of all orders placed. Paper copies of the “Write On Stationery” orders will be accepted in the office until Tuesday June 18th and Online orders can be placed all summer long. Payments can be made by either cash or cheque payable to Write On Stationery.

The Musical Theatre option class is proud to present
Alice In Wonderland
The grade 7-9 students involved in our Musical Theatre class have been working hard on props, backdrops, lines, choreography, and costumes. It is going to be an amazing show that you will NOT want to be late for!
Tickets are available in the office for $6.00 each. There will be 2 performances; Tuesday, May 28, and Thursday, May 30. Gym doors will open at 6:45 pm with the performance beginning at 7:00 pm. There are a limited number of tickets, so don’t delay!
The actors in this play will not be using mics, so we ask that you NOT bring infants or small children who cannot sit quietly through the hour long performance. Thank you for your consideration in this.
Muir Lake School has provided our rural neighbourhood with a community focus for over 30 years. Our school building has been continually modernized and expanded to meet the increasing enrolment of the growing Community.
In 2000, the Muir Lake Community School Foundation (MLCSF) was formed and since then have had a great impact on Muir Lake School and the community. The Foundation was originally set up to oversee the construction of our playground and the running track. They continue to oversee the fundraising for the school for the MANY projects that are required and the many opportunities that are available to us as a school.
The Foundation is currently looking for volunteers to be involved and are holding their Annual General Meeting and elections on Thursday May 23rd at 7:00 pm in the library. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Each student should have brought home a Spell-A-Thon package which includes the list of words, chosen by their teacher, and a pledge form. Each student will then practice their word list and go out and collect pledges for the spell-a-thon. They may collect money for each word that they spell correctly or may collect a flat amount. For example, a person might pledge 25 cents per correct word spelled or they might choose a flat amount like $10.00.
We encourage students to limit their sponsors to family, friends, neighbors, and those known to their family.
The time-line is as follows:
April 15th Student Spell-a-thon packages given out – students can begin gathering pledges
April 23 – 26 Spelling tests given – teachers choose date & time to administer the tests to their classes, mark the tests
April 29 Tests will be handed back to the students to collect money.
May 6 Money and pledge forms due – money will be counted and prizes tabulated.
The final total and all grand prize winners will be announced and prizes will be distributed to students.
We are excited to change to format for the prizes this year. The more money you raise the more prizes you will collect.
- If the student raises $ 1 to $19.99 the student will receive Prize A
- If the student raises $20 to $49.99 the student will receive Prize A + Prize B
- If the student raises $50 to $99.99 the student will receive Prize A + Prize B + Prize C
- If the student raises $100 and over the student will receive Prize A + Prize B + Prize C + Prize D
This year the prize levels will be as follows:
- Level 1 Prize (A) $1 – $19.99 raised will earn a PRIZE
- Level 2 Prize (B) $20 – $49.99 raised will earn a ball
- Level 3 Prize (C) $50 – $99.99 raised will earn your choice of Beanie Boo or Lego set
- Level 4 Prize (D) $100 and over raised will earn a child’s movie pass
Top prizes include 3 family adventures!
The top fundraiser for the school will win one of these prizes.
In addition, there will be 2 draws for the remaining students who have raised more than $100; 1 for Kindergarten to Grade 2 students and 1 for grade 3-6 students
- Every student who raises $100-$150 will receive one entry into the draw
- Every student who raises $151-$200 will receive two entries into the draw
- Every student who raises over $200 will receive three entries into the draw
***Top fundraiser is not eligible to enter the draw for the second top prize****

Muir Lake Community School Foundation
The kindergarten to grade 5 students will be participating in a week-long artist in residency from May 6-10. These drama experts will be working with students to create a performance tying together drama and science.
Students will work alongside artists to create performances about different parts of their science curriculum. Students will learn skills in creating performances. They will also have the opportunity to perform for their peers and their family and friends.Tickets will be available in the office starting April 29th for $5 each for the Friday May 10th performances
- 200 tickets will be available for the 1:15pm performance
- 450 tickets will be available for the 6:00pm performance
