From September 14 to October 4, Parkland Village School is excited to be taking part in the Adopt-a-School-the -Indigo Love Reading Foundation’s Fundraising Program.  Adopt a school unites Indigo, Chapters and Coles Stores, the local schools they adopted and their communities to raise money for elementary-school libraries across Canada.

We need your help to make sure Parkland Village School raises enough money for our library.  All funds that are raised by P.V.S. will be used to buy new books for our library.  If you would like to adopt our school please choose one or more ways you would like to contribute from the 3 steps below.  Thank you for your support in helping us expand our library.

Raffle for Team Gerhardt Fundraiser

Parkland Village School has been given a wonderful donation for the fundraiser for Mrs. Gerhardt. Keagan Puddester (grade 4) and his family raised enough money to get a bike from the Jump Rope for Heart campaign. They decided that they would like to donate the bike to Mrs. Gerhardt’s fundraiser.  Along with the bike, there will also be a few other prizes we will draw for, such as a gift card to Menchie’s. There will be raffle tickets sold at the office for $2 each. At the end of Mrs. Gerhardt’s walk around Parkland Village, we will pull tickets and announce the winners. It will be a great opportunity to donate to the cause and possibly win an awesome prize!

Walk For Cancer (Post by Kayla – Gr.4)

Hi my name is Kayla Gerhardt, and I am a student here at Parkland Village School. As you know my mom, Mrs. Gerhardt is a teacher here. In January, we received news that my mom was diagnosed with cancer.  I decided to make a fundraiser in my mom’s honor.  On March 26th, we are having a Walk for Cancer to raise money for Cancer Research.  I am asking my fellow PVS friends to help join my cause.  Mr. McNaughton has also agreed to support my cause by shaving his head for cancer if we as a school community, raise $3000. 00!

So I am asking all of you to please join me and get as many donations as you can for this great cause!

On the day of the event students can also pay $2.00 to spray paint their hair (washable) pink for the day or to wear a hat.

I’m very excited to organize this fundraiser. Thank you in advance for your participation.

Terry Fox Rocks P.V.S.!!!!

Wow! There was a buzz in the hallways last week when the students, staff and community raised $930.00 for the Terry Fox Foundation! Way to go Parkland Village School!!! On Wednesday, September 23 the students, staff and families participated in the Nation Wide Terry Fox Run. We kicked off the run with a pie eating contest with a special surprise for the students in the end. We would like to thank Save-on-Foods in Spruce Grove for donating 5 banana cream pies and 5 chocolate cream pies for the pie eating contest. Mr. McNaughton and the other nine contestants were suited up and 1, 2, 3, the contest began with cheering from everyone in attendance.

It didn’t take long for the pies to start flying as Mr. Kotak was assisting a few of the contestants in getting their faces into those delicious pies. The kids were excited and jumped for joy when Mr. McNaughton was declared the winner beating the nine other contestants from each one of the classrooms at Parkland Village School. The students received an extra 15 minute recess for their efforts and contribution to this excellent cause. But the fun didn’t stop there.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, September 30 the Parkland Village Staff turned in to an all Female Rock Band and sang their version of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun! Mr. McNaughton, Mr. Schumacher and Mr. Kotak all looked great as females. Please enjoy the videos below that we have shared with you of this amazing and rewarding event at our school. Super job Parkland Village School!

First School Council Meeting Reflections

On Wednesday, we had our first school council meeting of the year. It was great to get to know everyone in attendance a little better. There was some great discussion about a number of different topics including fundraising, learning, and community engagement. One of the things we are hoping to offer at school council in the future is parent learning opportunities. We hope to explore topics that are meaningful and relevant to helping you engage in your children’s learning. To do that we are hoping to get your feedback. Let us know what you would be interested in by completing the Potential Parent Learning Opportunities Survey and giving us your ideas. We will collect the ideas and share in the near future to see what is of most interest. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

If you weren’t able to attend, below are the meeting minutes along with the presentation I gave. In it are a couple of interesting videos and some information regarding my core values as a leader, among a couple of other things. I would encourage you take a few minutes to review the minutes and take a glance at the presentation. We hope to see you there next month!

Little Caesars Fundraiser Is Back (Kristin Riess, Fundraising Coordinator)

One of our most popular fundraisers is back! Starting September 12th forms will be sent home for Little Caesars Pizza kits and cookie dough! We heard your feedback from previous orders and will be ordering twice this year to help out with the problems of storing multiples of the large kits. Our second order will not be until the end of March so be sure to order enough to last you until then! Your forms and money will need to be returned to the school by Monday September 29th, 2014. The orders will then be placed and delivered to the school October 16th, 2014 and will be ready for pick up from the school at 1:30 till 6:00. The school receives a kick back of $5.00 off of every kit we sell which will be used to upgrade and purchase more technology for the students.  We need your help and support to make this the best fundraiser yet!
