Garbage Can Vivid Description: Resentful

He is black, grey and resentful when we take his nasty dirty guts out to the big green evil enemy. He whines till he gets full. He won’t let us clean him up. When we take him outside to clean him, the wide green handle grabs the railing, and he constantly fights. He’s such a spoiled little brat that wants more garbage; he is such a little princess. As we try to move him to a new spot in the house, it’s like a war starting. There is garbage beaning thrown everywhere and in the end we have to clean for hours from all his nasty stain marks left from top to bottom. He can’t stand the sun. He constantly tells us he is going to melt. Sometimes that might be a good thing. When kids come around he scares them have to death, and he just laughs with his evil gurgle laugh. Also, as kids try to throw something out in the garbage he tries to eat them. We can hear the kid scream afraid of his sharp spear like teeth. We run to the kitchen to find them in tears and when we tell him no he ignores us and continues. We can punish him or get him out of our house he is way too resentful.

If a market economy runs on an “invisible hand,” how are prices regulated?

If an individual has extra money and he or she decides to open a business, he or she becomes the supplier. The supplier is the person who supplies the product to the consumer. Most of the suppliers will supply the consumers with what they demand. When the supplier first opens his or her business they are considered in a monopoly. A monopoly means 1 seller, for example, there is only one golf course in Stony Plain so it is considered a monopoly. It has no competition in this area. When there is another business just like there’s that opens up down the street they are not considered a monopoly anymore. They are in competition, like two gas stations competing for consumers to like there gas station better. When starting your own business you have to consider the cost, profit, and price. The cost is how much money it will take to make the product. The profit is money you are going to earn back after you sell the product. Lastly, price is what you are going to sell the product for.

It’s a consumer’s choice to where they want to buy the product they demand. All consumers are looking for good quality in the item before they buy it. Lots of consumers look for incentives or special offers. Like buy one get one free or get a free drink with large fries. Incentives and special offers are almost the same but they both mean making deals to attract consumers. They also look for price fixing on items they wanted or demanded but couldn’t afford. When you are a supplier your biggest fear is going through bankruptcy with your business. But in some cases you could join another company who sells the same types of product, and make a partnership.

New Land

Dear Family,

Life has been a struggle, but it’s also been fun as well as a new experience. I’m so sorry I haven’t written to you sooner but I had to concentrate more on getting food and shelter for my group. It’s hard surviving without anything. The land we got given was pretty good. We have 2 rivers that run through and we have a small forest and a hill. The first thing we did when we got to the land we build a small cave in the side of the hill. For about 8 days we had to sleep under the trees. The only food we had was apple, oranges, fish and other animals like squires and birds. We barely saw a deer or a bear. We planted crops to make food and we also bought a cow with very little trading supplies. Now our crops are full with oats, strawberries, carrots, and rice plant. We have also planted many more apple and orange tress. Other groups trade us fur in return of a nice warm blanket I’ve made out of fur. We hope to trade for a boy cow so they can breed.  With our land we also made a bridge across the river so when people want to come down the river they have to pay to get through. I made skin for the outside of our tipi; we plan to store food and supplies in it for the winter.  The weather here has been okay it’s not super-hot in the summer but it’s decent, and in the winter we get lots of snow and the temperature is always different. We get a fair amount of rain too.

My group is very nice and friendly, they are almost like my new family. We are full of many skills. We have a worrier, hunter and fishermen. But me and my sister had a hard time communication with the others because we are the only ones that have knowledge. They still know some skills. Most of my group is fleeing from the change in government but the other guy is fleeing from the law. He is supposed to be in jail. Later on he is going to go still so supplies, I don’t really know what to think about that at the moment.

I miss you guys so much. I wish you guys could have come. I plan to write to you more after the 10 year settlement plan is over. It would also be nice if you could come live with us on the land. But I don’t really know if that’s possible. I haven’t changed much but if I saw you guys you would probably think I have. I have a few scratches and bruises from building things but I haven’t gotten majorly sick, I’m pretty healthy.

Love,

Julie

Dear Family,

November 1509, it’s been 2 years. The queen has come to check our progress and to collect supplies. She asked us to get food, weapons and warriors together for her. The TChichikua First Nations group is coming to attack us. My group decided to provide wheat, vegetables and fruit we are also sending one of our best warriors to fight the war. I am also going to be one of the doctors and help providing medicine to the sick and wounded. Queen Mary Colleen was very happy with what we gave to her. Queen Mary Colleens decide to grant us with 1 more year on our land. That means we can grow more and develop our land more before she comes to check in again.

We want to get more live stock as well as more trees and plants. We will have more to trade and more wood for building. We also want to get more members to join our land. I was asked by another group to come join their community and work with them but I said no. Our land is good I love living there but the other group is fine with me not joining there group, we are all still friends. Our groups work together.

I’m fine joining the war and helping; it will be a great experience. It will help my group keep their land. It will also help the other groups, too. I’m hoping to impress the queen with my doctor skills. Maybe I can help our group keep the land or at least stay on it longer.

I met another settler from another group. Her name is Angelina. She is very nice, and kind. Angelina works for another group to make money and she also works for her group. Her group is all boys. They got stuck with the worst land. All there is one big rock that they had to work around. She trades with me all the time, we secretly trade gold for baskets of fruit.

Love,

Julie

Montreal: Day 7

Well, today was the last day in Montreal. We had to leave for the airport at 6:00am. We thought it would take about a half an hour (thats what everyone told us it would take) but it only took 10 minutes. Our cab driver was speeding 130 km per hour down the freeway, the speed limit was 70 km per hour! After we arrived at the airport we hung out for a while before we flew off to Toronto and then onto Edmonton. All the cars and buildings look like little ants. My favorite part of flying in an airplane is takeoff and being in the air. They have many good treats on board too.
We arrived in Edmonton at about 12:30. It almost felt like I went back in time because we left Montreal at 8:00am and arrived at Toronto at 9:30am to 10:30am and then took of again and landed in Edmonton at 12:30am. It takes about 4 hours to fly from Toronto to Edmonton. When we got into the airport my grandpa and grandma were there to pick us up, my dad had to work. When we got home we unpacked and I’m slowly getting ready to go back to school. It was over to soon!

Montreal: Day 6

Sadly, today is our last day. The trip feels like it ended to soon. I’m also kind of happy to go back home too! Today, we went on a bus tour around Montreal. The driver drove the bus all over the main tourist parts of Montreal. We went up to Montain Royal where we over looked one side of the city and we also went to St. Joseph’s Oratory, but sadly we couldn’t go in the building or get close to it. The bus was only allowed to enter certain areas. We also went to the Olympic stadium, our driver explained to us that they have no us for it anymore. The baseball team used to use it but has now moved to Toronto. So the building right now stands empty which is a shame. We visited the Notra Dame Basilica again. After, we drove around in the bus and he pointed out some cool or important facts about buildings as we drove past them. When the tour was done we walked around the old Montreal streets and down by the harbor. We stopped at a cup cake shop and I had a red velvet cupcake which was amazing. Walked some more then went for supper. Our supper was good but the service was slow, there was only one waiter. But other wise our food was great. They had no crepes at our restaurant so we walked to another restaurant called the creperie. I was full so we ordered one to share between us. Good thing we did because the crepe a huge and delicious desert! When we got back at the hotel we decided to go and sit in the hot tube. When we took one step into the hot tube it was freezing and pushing out cold water so we decided to go back up to our hotel room. Then we packed for the rest of the time. Now to bed and up at 4:30 AM to get to the airport for our flight.

Montreal: Day 5

We didn’t have much planned today so, we just slept in a little bit. Most of the gym team was flying home so I didn’t get to hangout with them. After we got up and got ready we went and walked around, towards the underground mall and through China Town. We walked down St. Catherine’s street. It’s a long street with many stores like Mexx and Guess. They are all big named brand stores which connect to the underground city mall. After our feet stared getting sore we can back to the hotel. By then all of the team had left except me, but that’s okay, it’s to early to go home anyway. After we got all rested up we went and ate at a real French restaurant. It was good. Then we just went and walked along the harbor and tried to find a restaurant for tomorrow to have supper at. One thing I learned about today was that everyone here in Montreal eat diner really late like after 6:30. So we had troubles finding an open restaurant.
Tomorrow we have booked a bus tour that will take us to a hill, well here they call it a mountain. It will also take us to the Basilica and the Olympic Statium and St.Joesph Oratory. Once again the picture I can’t figure out how to put on.

Montreal: Day 4

We didn’t have much planned for today except shopping at the underground city mall. The mall is built under all the buildings and roads downtown. The Baie alone was 9 floors, there was lots of shopping. At 4:30 we all had to meet at Boston Pizza for a team super. The BP’S in Spruce Grove pay for our meal as a gift to us, which is very kind of them. I’m sure the bill was large. We also experienced crazy cab driving, it was so scary. He kept honking his horn and swirving everywhere, apparently this is normal here, everybody honks. After the meal we went and watched the national level gymnastics girls who were amazing. They must train lots. When we got back to the hotel we went swimming. It was the most fun I’ve had in the pool… My gym friends are wild.
Tomorrow we don’t have to be up early so I get to sleep in a little bit. We also have no plan for tomorrow, maybe some more shopping on St.Caterine’s street. Many of the girls leave late tomorrow, which sucks. We will be on our own to explore.

Montreal: Day 3

Today was the day that I had to get up at 5:00 AM to get ready for the competition. When we got there we got a 15 minute warn up on each event, then we went straight to competing. At the competition I hurt my ankle and my heels started to hurt badly, so for my next 4 events I had troubles…but I still had and amazing time and it was great to meet girls from all over the country. After competing we came back and had a great time in the pool! Thank god that there was only 2 of us swimming because the pool was the size of a large hot tub and the hot tub was the size of a bath tub. But we still had fun. When we were finished in the pool my auntie, my mom and I went walking around the old Montreal again, and ate supper at the Keg. At supper we decided that we would go and visit the Notre Dame Baslilica of Montreal. We walked to the Notre Dame Basilica to find out that it wasn’t open but they had a show going on at 8:30pm. So, we went to watch it. The show explained how it was built and who built it, as well as most of the background behind the building. They had curtains hanging everywhere so you couldn’t see anything it looked like a normal church. We watched a video on the very large curtains, at the end of the show the curtains started move and then dropped to reveal a huge, beautiful and historical church. It was simply beautiful and had the most detail I’ve ever seen in my entire life.
Tomorrow we are going shopping and going out for a team super we might even watch more gymnastics. But our first priority is finding the underground city that everyone says we have to go to… Shopping mall, and can you be leave that they built it all underground?

Pictures still to come.
