Welcome to the Duffield – Keephills Connection
September is the time of year where students are brimming with renewed hope and anticipation about the exciting possibilities that lie ahead. This was especially true for the Duffield and Keephills students as they anticipated what their new learning environment would be like every Tuesday and Thursday where all students would be learning together at Duffield. From day one I have been inspired watching the positive interactions between the students and how receptive they have been to the engaging and academically rich opportunities that staff has designed. One of these activities has contributed to the welcoming and caring environment that is felt as you walk into the building.
Staff members Jennifer Podhaniuk and Amanda Smith had a vision for an activity that would create a sense of belonging and a connection between all students and staff. The “Unity Vase” contains layers of sand that every student helped to create. Each color of sand represents a different grade in our school beginning with the staff. The students were excited to participate and as they poured their portion of sand into the vase, I could sense their pride in becoming a partner working together with their new friends. The phrase on the vase, “Unity is Strength. When there is Teamwork and Collaboration wonderful things Can Be Achieved”, exemplifies what the Duffield-Keephills Connection is all about.
Our partnership is taking shape as we work together as a learning community dedicated to caring relationships that convey compassion, understanding and respect. We support, push and encourage each other toward success.
