We learned that this week is International Education Week. We embrace all multicultural aspects we have throughout our Division from our French Immersion programs, second language programs as well as our strong cultures that are part of rich First Nations, Métis and Inuit connection and many of our school sites. Check out more from Alberta Education:
International Education Week (IEW) takes place every year during the third week of November. It is celebrated by over 100 countries around the world and provides an opportunity to highlight programs and activities that expose students, teachers, and communities to an international dimension. Parkland School Division is proud to play an integral role with the 30-year history of Twin City relationship between the Towns of Stony Plain and Shikaoi, Japan. Each October, approximately seventy Grade 10 students from Shikaoi visit Stony Plain for 10 days of learning, culture, adventure and personal growth. Students stay with local host families, who open up their homes to welcome these students.
Alberta Education has actively participated in IEW since 2006 and a Provincial International Education Week Committee was created in December 2010 to further raise the awareness of IEW across the province.
IEW is an initiative under the Council of Minister of Education, Canada and is recognized by other provincial/territorial governments and various non-governmental organizations active in international education. For more information on Canada’s participation in this year’s IEW, visit www.istudentcanada.ca.
