1 to 1 BYOD Parent Information Sessions

We are excited to be extending our 1-to-1 Technology Learning Initiative into the 2013/2014 school year. This initiative will continue to have our students learning with access to their own electronic device (chromebook, laptop, etc.) in the classroom to be used when it is the best tool for the learning activity. This 1-to-1 pilot began with our grade 9 and grade 4 classes; however, we are excited to expand this initiative to invite all of our students from grades 4-9 to participate.

Research indicates and we believe that creating a 1-to-1 learning environment will:

  • increase student engagement and motivation
  • improve academic achievement
  • foster creativity and innovation
  • increase collaboration and communication among students, staff, and parents
  • improve digital literacy skills that will equip students for the future

Both staff and students involved in the initiative this year have reported a great positive impact on learning. It has improved collaboration, creativity, organization, and student motivation.

We are offering 2 parent information sessions, Monday, April 29th, 6:00-7:30 and Thursday, May 2nd, 4:00-5:30.  We will be sharing feedback from staff, parents, and students about this initiative from this pilot year, as well as providing an overview of the initiative moving forward. All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. It is extremely important that you try to attend one of these information sessions if you have a child who will be in grades 4-9 next year, especially if your child is NOT currently participating in this initiative by bringing a laptop or Chromebook to school. It is your opportunity to learn about and ask any questions that you may have about the 1-to-1 initiative.

Please take a few minutes to complete this parent survey. The survey not only allows you to inform us about which parent information session you will be attending so that we can prepare accordingly, it is also an opportunity for you to provide us with some feedback to help guide our planning and implementation process.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the school at 780-963-3535 or email tmcnaughton@psd70.ab.ca.
