Christmas Concerts

christmas-star-vector-266321Christmas is coming quickly and we are excited to announce that we will once again be able to showcase the musical skill and talent of Muir Lake students through a kindergarten – grade 3 concert, and a grade 4 – 6 concert. This is a great opportunity for students to refine and build their skills to a heightened level. There is a sense of pride and accomplishment that accompanies participation in a performance such as this. As a school, we join the parents and community in celebrating this time of year through music. We look forward to every child participating in their respective performances. The evening performances begin at 7 pm but we ask that the children be in their classrooms by 6:30 pm.

Please mark the following dates on your calendars and plan to attend along with your child(ren).
Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1:00 pm  –  Dress Rehearsal, Grade 4-6
Wednesday, Dec. 17, 7:00 pm  –  Grade 4-6 Concert (ticket required)
Thursday, Dec. 18, 1:00 pm  –  Dress Rehearsal, Grade K-3
Thursday, Dec. 18, 7:00 pm  –  Grade K-3 Concert (ticket required)

To accommodate the large number of vehicles and attendees, we will continue to offer dress rehearsals at 1:00 pm on the day of the evening concert. Dress Rehearsals are a full run through of the program and do not require a ticket. Please remember however, that your child will still need to attend the evening performance. Those attending the evening performance will need to have a ticket. In December, four tickets will be provided to each family. If families do not need all four tickets, we ask that you return the extras to the office. These will then be available to others upon request.

Thank you for your support and planning to accommodate these performances.

“Leader in Me” Presentation – Board Of Trustees Meeting November 25, 2014

Parents Kids BM

We were privileged to bring students and parents from Muir Lake School to the November Board of Trustees Meeting – November 25, 2014 to do a presentation on “Leader In Me”.  Three schools in Parkland School Division shared how “Leader in Me” embraces the vision, mission, and Priorities of Parkland School Division.  Graminia School focused on Engaging our Community; Ecole Meridian Heights focused on Engaging Our Staff and Muir Lake School focused on Engaging Our Students.

Mrs. Matsuba spoke about “Leader in Me” and the culture it brings to the school.  She was very proud to introduce our students to the Board of Trustees & Senior Executive in Parkland School Division. Students from Muir Lake School spoke with confidence on how the “Leader in Me” is impacting their lives, their school, their community, and their world.

Hannah Carter

Hannah & Carter represented our WE CARE Team and talked about WE Day, Social Innovation Workshop and helping people in their community & around the globe. They also highlighted their fundraising efforts and social justice actions over the past two – three years evidencing their leadership, entrepreneurial spirit and ethical citizenship.

Cole V

Cole & Veronica spoke about our “Leader in Me” Assemblies and how they have had opportunities to MC and be involved. They also shared about our Leadership awards and how the “7 Habits” are helping them become better people.

4 girls

The Board of Trustees, Superintendent Tim Monds & the Senior Executive Team of Parkland School Division were very pleased to have our students share today. Our students evidenced the beauty of Student Leadership & Citizenship through the “7 Habits”.

Students … Mrs. Matsuba, Mrs. Dickson and I are VERY PROUD of you!

THANK YOU for your leadership at Muir Lake School!

New Phone System

Muir Lake School has a NEW Phone System
and we are very excited about it!

press1When you call the school you will notice that we have a new AUTOMATED phone system. When you call in to report that your child will be late or absent you are directed to please press “1”.  You may also press “2” to listen to our staff directory so that you can dial an extension number to leave a message for a teacher on their voicemail. You also have the option to press “0” to speak to someone in the office. You are always welcome to send an email to the office to report an absence to or to any of our staff.

Also new is our “On Hold Information System”. When you phone in to the school and are placed on hold there is an automated message announcing what is going on at the school.

FunTeam Intramurals Update

We have had a lot of fun at lunch recess playing games and being physically active. Our grade 9 leadership students have prepared great activities for the grade 1s, 2s, and 3s to participate in. Students all have had great things to say after intramurals and are great team players in the gym. Thank you to all the students who attend each session and to our helpers for organizing and showing great leadership in our school!!

Reminders From The Office

Reminders From The Office:

  • Students are not to be dropped off at school before 7:30 a.m. as there is no supervision before this time
  • Students are reminded to use the designated crosswalks to ensure their safety
  • Please let your child’s teacher and the office know if your child is going to be away from school; this will eliminate the need for our staff to make the attendance call home to check on them. This can be done by emailing or by calling 780-963-3535 and pressing “1” for the Attendance Message Voicemail
  • All students are to have indoor footwear as they are to be taking their outdoor footwear off at their designated doors
  • Anytime that your child is dropped off or picked up after the bell at 8:06 a.m., they must be signed in or out at the office. When you do come to pick up your child, please have the secretaries call their classroom and have them sent to the office to meet you
  • Doors are locked after the first bell rings in the morning and only the front door remains open
  • All visitors are to check in at the office; this is so that we know who is in our building in case of fire drill, emergency, etc.
