Bring on the “Kids” — The Baby Goat Kind

goatsOn Friday, May 8 we will be welcoming a couple of baby goats to our school. These friendly and cute little ones will help us to help others. Students are invited to bring in a toonie which can be given to their homeroom teacher. Then on May 8 they may have their picture taken with one of our “kids” that will be visiting for the day. Once photos are developed they will be delivered to the students. All proceeds will be donated to Free the Children and will be used to buy the gift of goats for needy families. A family will then have daily nourishment that the goat milk can provide. Extra milk is often sold to make money for other needy items that can then be bought. Free the Children focusses on providing materials(goats and other materials) to mostly women raising families alone so that they may have a sustainable way of supporting themselves and their children. Thank you in advance for your support. Questions can be directed to Mrs. Matsuba (smatsuba@psd70.ab.ca). More information can also be found on the Free the Children website.

We Are Silent

On April 16 we had 26 students participate in our third annual We Are Silent Campaign. These students took a 24 hour vow of silence to show support for children around the world whose problems are not listened to. These students also raised funds that will be donated to Free the Children. This money will be used to buy 17 goats for needy families. This is a real gift and we are very proud of these students to show commitment to making our world a better place. Congratulations also to Mrs. Matsuba’s grade two class and Mrs. Montgomery’s grade one class who participated for one hour during the school day. Both classes also donated money to this cause. Well done, Muir Lake. Thanks also to all the families who supported these students.
