Take Our Kids to Work is an annual program in which Grade 9 students spend the day in the workplace of a parent, relative, friend or volunteer experiencing and learning about the world of work. Held on the first Wednesday of November, the program supports career exploration and career readiness among Canadian public school students. Experiencing a “day in the life” of a professional within a workplace allows students to explore the world of work and helps them make informed educational decisions.
Launched in 1994, Take Our Kids to Work is the most recognized career readiness program in Canada with more than 200,000 students visiting workplaces every year on Take Our Kids to Work Day.
Click HERE to see the Parent Guide & Consent Form and to get more information on the program. Your grade 9 student should have brought home a consent form for you to complete and sign which needs to be returned to the school prior to October 27th.
Should you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact the school or the grade 9 teachers.

Interested in ordering a 2017-2018 Yearbook for your child(ren)? Simply add it to your cart in the Fees portion of the PowerSchool Parent Portal. This makes a great keepsake for them.
You may have experienced a problem in being able to add a yearbook to your cart – well, good news – this has been corrected!
Once you are in the Fees window, scroll to the bottom of the screen and click on the Yearbook icon under “Additional Items” and then “Add to Cart” when the extra window pops open. This amount will then be added to the total amount due. Once you are ready to pay click on the “Checkout” icon up in the top right hand corner and proceed with your credit/debit card. Statements went home with the students at the end of last week.

Strong Families Series: Empowered Parenting
Date: Tuesday, October 17
Location: Parkland School Division Centre For Education – Board Room (4603 48th Street, Stony Plain)
Parenting is hard work: sometimes no matter how hard we try, it can still be a struggle. Though every child is different, universal principles exist that can still help many parents feel empowered and able to work collaboratively with their children to create family cohesion, no matter their unique situation.
This introductory learning workshop provides an overview of these principles, and will help parents:
- Enhance the parent-child relationship
- Develop simple and meaningful emotional language accompanied with visuals that both parents and children can use to express and understand their emotions
- Learn practical strategies for both children and parents that will enable them to manage their emotions and avoid potential meltdowns
- Practice simplified reinforcement strategies to promote positive behavior proactively
- Take home tangible resources to use with their children
Join us for an in-depth discussion of these topics and more.
A light supper will be provided. Limited childcare is available. Please register early to reserve your spot.
