CTF Week – June 22nd-26th

CTF

CTF Week is happening at Muir Lake School next week!

CTF (Career & Technology Foundations) supports flexible, interdisciplinary learning where students explore interests and passions while making personal connections to career possibilities and technologies associated with various Career and Technology Studies (CTS) occupational areas. CTF is designed to be a unique curriculum that allows students to learn about occupational areas. Students will develop skills in the areas of business, communication, human services, resources, and technology while working through engaging challenges.

Our students have spent time prior to CTF Week brainstorming, peer interviewing, planning and developing their own individual or group challenges to work through during CTF Week.

This is an exciting introduction to the CTF Curriculum that will be in place next year throughout Alberta. We are really looking forward to this engaging week of student centered learning that will be occurring.

Please join us on Friday, June 26th from 10:00am – 11:00am  as the students showcase their learning.

We have the Greatest Parents!

Today, our staff literally got the STAR Treatment! As Teachers, E.A’s and School Support Staff, we do what we do because we LOVE children. We certainly don’t expect any accolades for doing what we do, but let me tell you, we sure appreciate it when we get it!

The staff of Muir Lake School all got to spend the WHOLE lunch hour together, food prepped and brought in by parents, supervision covered by parents (both outside and in the classroom), presents, desert and all! We just want to say a huge ‘THANK YOU’ from the bottom of our hearts to those parents who were able to take time out of their busy schedules to think about us.

You are all AWESOME!

Hats on For Mental Health Kick Off!

What do you get when you combine, an eager Muir Lake E.A. (Mrs. Gibbons), a fantastic Youth Resiliency Coordinator (Felicia Ochs), a Yoga Team from Wabamun School, some great music and 450 energetic students with a yoga mat?

You guessed it…SUCCESS!

Today we celebrated the kick off to ‘Mental Health Awareness Week’ with a school wide Yoga Class. All students grades k-9 participated, and when I say participated, I MEAN it! It was absolutely fabulous watching staff and students of Muir Lake School work through the Yoga routine. We all enjoyed every minute of it, and learned a little something new.

A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Gibbons for organizing such a fantastic event! As well, an event like this is always better with music, so thank you to Colton, Marcus and Mathew for taking on that task.

Below are some of the fabulous pictures taken during the event by our School Council Vice Chair, Nicole Simcoe.
