It was GREAT to see some new faces at last night’s School Council Meeting! Please know that you are always welcome at School Council and we look forward to seeing even more people come out and get involved.
Below is our admin presentatioin that was presented at School Council. We encourage you to check it out if you missed it.
One of the topics discussed last night was Student Absences.
We are extremely excited for this new school year as the leadership team at Muir Lake School. We look forward to continuing to build strong relationships with the students, staff and parents of the school community.
We anticipate this year to be an excellent year of continuing to provide a safe, caring and stimulating environment in which students can grow intellectually, emotionally, and socially.
As your educational leaders at Muir Lake School our foundational “BIG ROCKS” or “core values” are:
Excellence in Academics and Citizenship
Our vision is that we will empower Muir Lake School to become more vibrant, strong, and successful as we celebrate the unique talents and abilities of all learners. Every child learns, every child succeeds.
A couple items to note at the beginning of this school year.
In an effort to reduce our consumption of paper, we encourage our students and their families to view newsletters and calendars on our school website or here on our school blog. If you haven’t already signed up to receive email notifications when new information is posted to the blog we would encourage you to do so.
We have created a Muir Lake School YouTube channel! We encourage you to view the photo slideshow (embedded above) that was shown to the students on the first school day during the assembly as a celebration of the leadership demonstrated last year and a challenge to continue to develop leadership this year. Subscribe and stay tuned for future videos!
Our 1 to 1 technology initiative is moving forward with our learning communities 4 and 9 classes. This initiative is about increasing access to technology for our students to be used when it is the best learning tool available at anytime in the class. We are doing this by encouraging students to bring their own laptops to be used at school. You can read more information about this by clicking on the 1-to-1 Technology in the Classroom category on the sidebar of this blog. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the office or speak with your child’s teacher.
As your educational leaders, we look forward to collaborating with the staff and parents as we work together on critical thinking, leadership and ethical citizenship, inclusion, and technology integration. We are committed to building a strong partnership between home and school. Please feel free to contact us at the school by telephone 780.963.3535 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com.
We look forward to sharing more details with you at our Muir Lake School Council Meeting on Monday, September 17 at 7:00 p.m.
Time flies when you are having fun! We can hardly believe we are in our final weeks of school, approximately 38 days of classes to go until the last exam is written. With so few days of classes remaining it is imperative that our students be in school. Please continue to make every effort to minimize absences.
As you can see by our calendar dates, we have a lot of things going on before school is out. We would like to thank all the volunteers that have been in the school this year. Without you many of the extra activities would not have run so smoothly. Without a doubt all of our volunteers play an essential role at Muir Lake School. On this note, our volunteer appreciation celebration is tentatively scheduled for May 25th. Be looking for your personal invitation soon!
Our junior and senior badminton teams’ season is underway. Congratulations to the Muir Lake team for their first place finish in the Muir Lake Badminton Tournament that was held at Broxton Park School on April 20th. Once again our athletes competed well and represented our school with pride. We wish the team luck in the County Tournament that will take place May 2 – 5. Thank-you to Mrs. Gadoury and Mr. Rowse for coaching and to the parents that were able to transport and rearrange schedules to fit this short season in.
Special thanks to Cheryl Williamson and Kelly Williamson for painting the beautiful “Leader in Me Mural” in our main entrance. Check it out!!
Just a reminder for the parents of our grades 3, 6 and 9 students, that English Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) will be written during the week of May 14 – 17, 2012. Please note that there are regular classes in the afternoon and students are expected to be here at school. All of the PAT dates have been put on our Muir Lake School Calendar.
The grade 4, 5 and 6 track meet is scheduled for May11th. We invite you to come and join us on this day and cheer on our athletes. We wish all of our qualifying athletes good luck at the Division Track Meet on May 23rd followed by the grade 7-9 Zone Track Meet on May 25th. Good luck to everyone!
The next School Council meeting will be on May 14th in the art room. All parents are welcome to attend. We hope to see you there.
We have a Professional Development Day on May 18th … so enjoy the long weekend with your friends and families!

REMINDERS FROM THE OFFICE
Students are not able to come to school before 7:30 am as the staff is not here before this time.
Please let your child’s teacher and/or the office know if your child is going to be away from school or late in the morning.
Anytime that your child is dropped off or picked up from school – regardless of the time – they must be signed in or out at the office.
All visitors must check in at the office.
When coming to pick up your child, please have the secretaries call their classroom and have them sent to the office to meet you.
Volunteers – please sign in and out at the office.
The 4 pm transfer buses are NOT intended for use by the Muir Lake School students. If your child is staying past the regular bus times, for whatever reason, arrangements must be made to either pick up your child or call transportation (780-963-8425) ahead of time to get permission for your child to ride the 4 pm bus.
When dropping off or picking up your child
Please do so in the Muir Lake Hall parking lot; this is a serious safety concern.
Just in case you missed it… here is the note from the Leadership corner from the Mustang News.
Happy New Year to you and your families! We hope that you all enjoyed your Christmas break and had a relaxing time with families and friends. We want to thank all of the families for once again supporting the Christmas concerts this year. Again, a huge thank-you to Mrs. Grant, Mrs. Gottenbos, Mrs. Badry and Mrs. Bursey and all of the teachers for doing such a wonderful job of bringing the shows together. All concerts were well attended. Special thanks to Dylan Taylor and Danny Ogurian for serving as Sound Technicians. Many thanks to all that contributed to the Christmas Hampers and Operation Christmas Child this year. Again, Muir Lake School has come through to help others.
We would like to send out a thank you to the teachers and volunteers working as coaches for basketball this season. Continue reading →
