Canada helps Afghanistan …

Canada has played a role in helping Afghanistan in a variety of ways including helping feed people living in poverty, improving the health care system, working to improve the lives of women and children in Afghanistan and helping build a strong education system.

Today, March 12,  we celebrate the end of the Canadian mission in Afghanistan and recognize the sacrifice that so many Canadians have made. Today is a significant day for Canada and Alberta.

Today we pause and say THANK YOU … by wearing RED … and participating in a flag raising ceremony.

Remembrance Day Slideshow

For those who were not able to attend our school Remembrance Day Ceremony this year, here is a brief slideshow recapping the event. We are proud of the work, effort and honour are students displayed during this excellent ceremony.

We Remember …

At Muir Lake School we took time … to remember … and honor those who have served our country. We were privileged to have Stan Monkman and Jay Cunningham as our special guest speakers.  They each shared their personal experiences about the military, remembering our veterans, and being thankful for our freedom.  Thank you very much, gentlemen!

Thank you to Mrs. L’Hirondelle and many of our students who organized and facilitated this significant ceremony.  Thank you to the Tech Team and Set Up Crew.  Thank you to Austyn Willson, Kaylee Von Grad, Amy Miller, Madelaine Alaric, Nick Dawes, Grace Bush, Grade 2s, Grade 6s and the Muir Lake School Choir for your contribution in adding the special touches. We appreciate all of you!

It was also very moving to see so many students place poppies on behalf of a family member or friend, who have fought for our freedom. Thank you to all of our students for demonstrating such a high level of respect throughout our ceremony!

Thank you parents and family members who joined us in our ceremony … to reflect … and remember …

OCTOBER 31 was a BUZZ of activity at Muir Lake School …

Our K – 3 students were excited to attend a “Kids Carnival”, which was planned, organized and run by students in our Leadership Option and Students’ Council.  Mrs. Arnold and I are very proud of the excellent choice of activities, positive attitudes and enthusiasm displayed by the organizing students.  Thank you for your leadership. Way to go!

A special treat … Carmen and David arrived this morning with their “mini-donut” machine, and our kitchen quickly became a factory for “yummy” treats.  Thank you very much!

This afternoon was filled with a costume parade, celebrations, food, games, dance etc.

Many parents and guests were in our building today enjoying the festivities, helping with costumes, providing food etc. Thank you for partnering with us in building a strong sense of community at Muir Lake School!

It was indeed a FUN-filled day!
