Book Fair Volunteers Needed

Feelin Groovy

Book Fair is coming!  We will be setting up on Monday February 1st in the morning and it will run through until 12:30 p.m. Wednesday February 3rd at which time we will take down the displays. You can even visit the Fair during the Parent/Teacher Interviews which will take place on the 1st & 2nd.

Many of you have faithfully volunteered for this event and we have appreciated you so very much.  We need volunteers to help once again.  If you can help students choose books, handle the cash desk, or supervise during class visits, please let us know. Anything you choose to do would be appreciated.

If you are able to help, please complete the form that is linked HERE and return it to your child’s classroom teacher as soon as possible.  Without your support we would not be able to have this event – we require approximately 10-12 people to run for the three days.

We look forward to working with you to make our book fair an exciting reading event for everyone!

Hot Lunch Needs You!

volunteers neededhot lunchAs most of you know, and hopefully your children have enjoyed, our Hot Lunch program runs from November to the end of April each year and we offer a hot and healthy lunch to the students four days a week. We hand make and cook everything on site and include a fruit, vegetable, and either a real fruit juice box or milk with each meal for an incredibly low price of $3.50 and a variety of soups for $1.00. The reason we can keep the price so low is because of our amazing volunteer pool.

We are always looking for new volunteers to join our program, your commitment can be as small or large as your schedule can handle. There are many different positions in the Hot Lunch program like cooking, money count, data entry, shopping, and menu planning. We cook Tuesday through Friday generally from 9:00-1:00. You don’t need to be a fancy cook or commit to coming each week. All menu items, recipes, and preparation details are provided. If you are only able to help one day a month, every other week, or each week, we can schedule you into a group with a team leader on the day of your choosing.  We understand that being a parent it can be sometimes hard to add more to your plate with volunteering; but here are some of the benefits of volunteering with the Hot Lunch program. On your cooking day you will enjoy a free lunch, as a thank you for your help we also provide lunch vouchers that can be used for free lunches for your child(ren), at the end of the year we take you for a wind up luncheon, and also at the end of the school year we are invited to the volunteer tea put on by the students and staff. While you spend your time in the school you get to know the teachers, office staff, other parents, and not to mention being able to see your children in their own environment.

We will be hosting an information meeting about Hot Lunch for new volunteers (date to be announced). If you are interested in receiving more information about volunteering next year please give us a call or send an email. (Gerri-Lou 780-266-0899 or gerristockall@gmail.com). Thanks in advance for checking out our program.

Help Needed . . .

The Muir Lake Community School Foundation is a group of MLS parent volunteers that was formed a number of years ago.  Their primary focus is to Re-Develop the school grounds – some of this has included but certainly limited to our amazing playground and the rubber-surface running track. However . . . it does not stop there . . . More help is needed; both in volunteering as part of the Foundation AND in their fundraising endeavours. Currently, the Foundation is scheduled to supply workers for a Casino on October 24th & 25th at Apex Casino in St. Albert. Workers are still required for Thurs evening 6:45 – 2:15 and 10:45 – 2:15 shifts and also Friday day 11-7. Please call  Joanne Trochymchuk at 780 909 2035 or email tchukhomes@gmail.com if you are able to take a shift or if you would like more information.

Volleyball Coaches Needed!

We are off to another great start to the year and are already excited about the fast approaching volleyball season! We are in need of some volunteers to coach or even just to help coach. This is a great way to get involved and help us to have another successful volleyball season for our athletes.

Coaches are needed for both the boys and girls and the Jr. Level (grades 6,7,8) and for the boys at the Sr. Level (grades 8 & 9).   Volunteer coaches would be assisted with a staff member as a liaison/supervisor.

If you are interested in volunteering please contact our office and let us know!
